The first day of 2008

On New Year's Day the family decided to forego the Carmel Resolution 5K for a scrumptious Crepe breakfast a la Jeremy. Some family members tried unusual combinations like bacon and jam on their crepe...and they liked it. I'm not planning on trying that one.
We bid farewell to Ryan, Steph and kids. Brandon, Lucy and Filipe left a little later.

Before heading back up to San Francisco, Jeremy and I met Dustin and his brother Elton at Moss Landing Beach for the most magical surf session. I watched from the beach, thoroughly entertained. I always love watching Jeremy surf, but this afternoon/evening was particularly enthralling. There were tons of seals playing in the surf close to shore. I watched the silhouette of pods of dolphins swimming right past the guys. The stunning sunset helped too. Jeremy, Dustin and Elton had this spot to themselves and the waves were coming in consistently--smallish, but beautifully formed. I took video and still-shots the whole time. Dustin is a locally-reknowned surfer. He was sponsored and Jeremy says would've gone pro if not for a stubborn knee injury. Elton, who I'd never met before, thought that Dustin had some sort of groupie since I was standing there taking pictures of them.

Jeremy thought that this evening was an excellent omen for the new year and I had to agree.
