Arctic bubble party, that is. The forecast 2 days before reported 62 and sunny. I think last Saturday ended up being the coldest day we've had for months and months. But at this point we'd already got Finn excited about his bubble party, so we had to give it a go. For the past few days Finn had let everyone know, that 1) his Nana was coming, and 2) there would be bubbles. So we set up at Sutro Heights Park, one of our favorite neighborhood spots. On the day of the party Finn was so excited for Nana's arrival at the park that he wanted to hang out with her in her car and took quite a bit of coaxing to relocate to where everyone had gathered. When he arrived at the scene, Finn was thrilled to have all his buddies there and playing with bubbles, one of his favorite things. Giant bubbles, no less.
The kids actually seemed to love the bubbles and not notice the cold. Here are the bubblers in action:
I think my favorite part of this party was watching Finn when everyone was singing happy birthday to him. He was just pleased as punch. (Notice how he got to the cupcake before we got a chance to start singing).

He loved learning about birthday presents (now every time a package arrives at our house, he thinks it is a present for him). He was desperate to play with each toy he opened. Immediately.
And so were the other kids.
As fate would have it the day after the party was sunny and temperate. We went to the park for round 2 of giant bubbles, just the 3 of us. Jeremy perfected his bubble art and even had like 5 different people come by to take photos.
Finn went nuts for chasing the big bubbles.
Some other kids were drawn to our fun, and in excitement one boy ran into Finn's forehead, teeth first. And thus ended bubble party #2.
The perpetrator entering the scene:
The victim, in recovery. The spot where those two red marks are turned into a nasty lump and bruise. Luckily no broken skin.
Oddly enough, a couple days later Finn fell onto my elbow, front teeth first and left 2 cute, little gap-toothed gashes on my arm. Seriously painful!
So, there were some gusts and lumps along the way, but all in all, Finn had a blast and I think he felt pretty special. Mission accomplished.
