Finn has always been an efficient sort of guy. He was an incredibly fast crawler and didn't transition to walking until he was good enough at it that he could run. Why walk somewhere slowly when you can get somewhere faster by sprint crawling? With his signature sprint crawl, Finn could usually reach somewhere hazardous before we even realized he was on his way.
Finn basically went straight from crawling to running everywhere. The suddenness of his transition from crawl to run was accompanied by his astonished nanny declaring upon our return from work, "Finn no camina, siempre corre!" ("Finn doesn't walk, he just runs!") Finn has continued to run everywhere he goes, only getting faster and tackling more difficult terrain over time.
I recalled that a race I have done with my team every year on Memorial Day had children's track races. It was decided that this year Finn would be entered into the 0-2 age division. With excitement, we watched him propel himself down the hall with ever increasing speed and precision. "He's so ready..."
Race day came and Finn was ready, decked out in his intimidating t-shirt and flame sneaks. He warmed up on rough terrain with bull dozers...
He studied the course.
He received last minute coaching as he toed the line.
And here's our track star:
