Summer Activities

Shortly after our trip to Japan I seriously had an 11 day stretch of time where I did not spend one single evening at home! A lot of the things I was busy with were fun so I can't complain!

It started when the next weekend I drove my parent's car down to LA to meet them there after their round the world adventures. It was great to see them again, and I also got to see my grandparents, aunt, and my brother in law Brandon, his wife Lucy and their darling boy Filipe. It was a quick trip with me arriving late Friday night then flying home Sunday evening. Since we had been having car troubles our friends Alex and Heather kindly offered Jeremy their car to pick me up from the airport and then treated us to a delicious meal at their home.

Monday: We went to our friends Betsy and Steve's apartment for some puzzling madness and delicious food. We've been spending a lot of time puzzling with the Santos' this summer and have decided that it is an extreme sport, and we're looking for sponsorship.
Don't be fooled by the jovial expressions on their face.

Most of the time it is a scene of intense concentration:

We work so well together as a team, we even share the glory of snapping that last piece into place.

Betsy and Steve have done a great job documenting our puzzling adventures
here, here, and here. Right now we are working on a doozy of a puzzle called "Vegas, Baby." It is a picture of the Las Vegas strip and has 2000 pieces!!

Tuesday night my aunt Jacki and her family were in town and met up with us for a night of great conversation and great food. We gave them a choice of about 10 of our favorite restaurants and they picked Delfina pizzaria. Afterwards we walked down the street to Bi-Rite Creamery for a scoop of heaven. It was so great to see the Hatfield family!

Wednesday night I went and worked as a pace leader for Nike Club Run. Jeremy and I are working for them all summer. I've been doing Wednesday nights and some Saturday mornings, and Jeremy has been doing Saturday mornings only since he has been working till 7:30 on weekdays for his internship. Wednesday evenings we meet at Niketown by Union Square and run down the Embarcadero, through Fisherman's Wharf and back. Saturday mornings we start at the Little Marina Green and often run through the Presidio and Golden Gate Park on a longer run. It is really fun and I enjoy supporting fellow runners in their running goals.

Thursday evening we went to the Orphem theater downtown to see our favorite comedian, Eddie Izzard perform. It was fabulous and he had us grinning and laughing out loud the whole show.

Friday evening we had dinner with my sister Emily at her apartment--always a treat!
Saturday we welcomed Jeremy's dad, mom and brother Ryan up to San Francisco to celebrate his dad's 60th birthday. We drove up north to Muir Woods where we enjoyed a beautiful walk.

Afterwards we went to Mill Valley where we had lunch at Pacific Catch. We shopped around a little, looking in particular for the picture book my sister in law Amy illustrated, which had just landed #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list for picture books.
We came home to our place where we had a chocolate cake from Tartine waiting, along with some Bi-Rite ice cream. It was heavenly.

I hope that it was a fun birthday celebration for Glenn. We certainly enjoyed our time with everyone. Glenn is such an amazing man--the best kind of person there is. For his birthday we got tickets for he and Jeremy to go to the Giant's game together, which they did just last weekend, and then he stayed the night. I know Jeremy really enjoyed that time with his dad.

Sunday evening we were back at the Beckstead's for monthly potluck and movie night. This time we watched E.T! It was a fun blast from the past.

More summer activities to come...but now you see why I'm so bad at blogging! It is hard to find downtime to update. But I'm very grateful for the busy, full life we lead and all the great people who are in it. I'm even grateful for that job that keeps me inside and busy 8 hours a day. It has been a real blessing and I actually do love it, even though often I can think of many things I'd rather be doing!
