Emily's Birthday Race-Party

This year we held Emily's 2nd annual race birthday party. Her party coincided with the MS Duskbuster 5K in Golden Gate Park. This is a race that raises money for research on multiple sclerosis. We invited Emily's friends to walk or run in the event and we followed it up with cake and gatorade afterwards. Those of us who still hadn't eaten dinner went to King of Thai afterwards.
Emily's banana cake and chocolate chocolate chip cake:

So I created an Evite invitation, and offered to babysit anyone's kids if they wanted to participate but had kids on their hands. It is a good thing that the kids I was supposed to watch didn't show up, because the race started at 7 pm. I arrived at 7:10 pm thinking that the race started at 7:30. I felt like an idiot, but at least there were no abandoned kids or upset moms on my account.

I was happy I got to be there for the finish. One of our guests, Jonathan finished first male and Emily, quite appropriately finished first female. She was wearing a tiara and running skirt. So cute! The top 7 finishers were from our racing team.

Here's our friend Nate finishing the race. He hadn't run in months. What a good sport, and what a strong finish!

Right before serving cake the awards were given out:
Allison for 2nd female

Emily for 1st female

Jonathan for 1st male

We had a little trouble with the candle lighting but managed to have 1 burning candle remaining for Emily to blow out at the end of the song. Everyone seemed to enjoy the cake, which made me happy.

Overall, a great time! Emily had a blast, so it turned out to be an excellent way to celebrate her birthday again. Running, food, friends--she's big on all those things.
